Ayşe applying gold leaf to the Ottoman Rose piece
The Story Behind This Piece

A Meditation in Gold

This piece began as a dream—an image of Ottoman roses that appeared to Ayşe during a morning meditation. The vision was so vivid, so insistent, that she immediately began sketching.

Over the following weeks, she refined the design, calculating the precise geometry that would allow the classic rose motif to unfold with mathematical perfection while maintaining organic grace.

"The Ottoman rose is a symbol of divine love—each petal unfolding like a prayer, each layer revealing deeper meaning. In this piece, I wanted to capture that sense of revelation."

The gilding process took 18 hours alone. Each piece of gold leaf was placed by hand using a brush made from the finest squirrel hair—a tool Ayşe has been using for 15 years. The gold is 23-karat, traditionally prepared in the manner of court illuminators.
