Ayşe

Master of Tezhip

With over 20 years of dedication to the art of Tezhip, Ayşe learned the craft from her grandmother, who was a court illuminator's apprentice. Each piece she creates is a meditation—hours of applying gold leaf with brushes made from the finest squirrel hair, following geometric patterns that have graced manuscripts for centuries.

Her work has been featured in museums across Turkey and the Middle East, yet she remains devoted to creating pieces for those who will treasure them in their homes.

"When I hold my brush, I feel connected to every artisan who came before me. This is not just my art—it's our collective memory made visible."

Zeynep

Weaver & Fiber Artist

Zeynep's journey began at her mother's loom at age seven. Today, she works with natural fibers—Turkish mohair, hand-spun wool, and silk—creating textiles that are meant to be used, loved, and passed down. Every throw blanket, every scarf carries the warmth of her hands and the story of its creation.

She sources all materials locally, working with shepherds in the Anatolian highlands and natural dyers who use recipes unchanged for generations.

"A piece of woven cloth is never just fabric. It's countless hours of intention, woven into something that will keep you warm on cold nights and remind you that someone made this with love."

Two Art Forms, Centuries of Tradition

Tezhip (Islamic Illumination)

Tezhip, meaning "gilding" in Arabic, is the art of illuminating manuscripts and creating standalone works using gold leaf, natural pigments, and incredibly fine brushwork. Originating in the Ottoman courts, this tradition requires years of training and infinite patience.

Each piece involves meticulous geometric calculations, hand-ground pigments, and 23-karat gold leaf applied with brushes just a few hairs wide.

Traditional Weaving & Textiles

Anatolia has been a crossroads of textile traditions for millennia. Our weaving practice honors this heritage, using locally sourced fibers and natural dyes derived from plants—indigo, madder root, pomegranate, and walnut shells.

Each textile is created on traditional looms using techniques passed down through generations, resulting in pieces that are both artistically significant and wonderfully practical.
